Safety Issues in the home

Each year, hundreds of people (many of them young children) are injured or even killed, by preventable hazards in the home. The two main sources of death or injury are water that scalds; and temperature and pressure relief valve malfunctions in water heaters.

A simple phone call to a licensed plumbing contractor in your area can result in low-cost or no-cost solutions to these potential hazards.

Things your plumber will check for and correct, if necessary, in your home include:

  • proper function of temperature and pressure valves on water heater
  • hot water maximum temperature set at 120 – 125 degrees Fahrenheit
  • fire hazards caused by vapors caused by gasoline and other flammable liquids
  • appropriate and accurate labeling on the water heater for above hazards
  • possible gas leaks in piping to heater and furnace
